Choosing web applications

There are many web applications out there – hundreds and even thousands of free applications touted to make your internet experience easier, faster, and more worthwhile. However the sheer number itself is staggering, and you do need some sort of outline to find the right app.

The first thing you should do is to define what kinds of applications you need. This narrows down the selection process significantly, making your search more specific and less cluttered by apps you don’t need.

Nest is to look at the top rated apps that fit your search requirements. Read reviews and user feedback to know which will work for you.

Lastly, don’t over-download (if there is such a word) apps. You can’t possible use all of them, so best only install the ones you can use often.

Cloud Computing – The next Evolutionary Step

cloudcomputing2The web is evolving like the step from the .com stage to the social web which has swept the world like a storm. The next step in the evolution of the internet is cloud computing, which is a rhetorical term that describes all the information which would be stored in the many data banks including programs and the information that would be used by them from the providers and users themselves.

Jjot: an excellent note taking app

While researching for possible articles in the internet, I have no time to take my hands off the keyboard and write on a notebook. Rather I’d have it in an electronic version, just like jjot.

Jjot is a lightning fast sticky note web application filled with smart features like archiving, search, and sharing. Jjot is very easy to use and understand (which is nice when you’re tackling any new web application), but what really stands out about Jjot is its speed. Everything you do on Jjot is satisfyingly snappy, which is so refreshing in an age of bloated web apps. Granted, Jjot’s speed might not be enough to make it stand out in the already overcrowded online note-taking and todo applications, but it’s on my good list.

This is good news particularly for Mac Users. Gabtastik is a standalone desktop program that enables you to run your Facebook chat without firing up your browser. It also works on many different popular online chat services. Gabtastik is really fun-tastic. aside from its compatibility with Facebook, it also works well with Google Talk and Meebo. This in turn make sit accessible to many of the major chatting services like Yahoo Messenger, AIM and MSN Messenger. Whats also great about the cutesy little application is that you can turn and adjust the interface’s opacity so as to blend well with the desktop background. Great option when you’re not using it and you have lots of windows opened.

Built in passwords in the browser have made typing them easy. Easier to sign in to personal favorite sites. Those sites that you just visit everyday. Foxmarks literally takes away the typing out of the equation. But it is quite a hassle when you use more than just one computer. When you are at work. What happens is that you have to type your info at home and when you are at work you have to type it again. Only Opera and Maxthon as far as i know provides easy of having your passwords and bookmarks ready across multiple product installations. Foxmarks is one such advancement. It is an add on in the Mozilla Firefox browser which syncs bookmarks across multiple browser installations. It also syncs your passwords. This amazing add on works perfectly without glitches. It sends updates of your bookmarks and passwords to a server. When you launch a particular session, it reads them automatically. Passwords are PIN protected. It certainly has no backdoors attached to it. Added to the feature is that it is completely invisible to the user. Unlike the other applications like, PassPack, Roboform and others. Hopefull this add on becomes available for the IE too.

What are Web Applications

post1.JPGFrom the vantage point of software engineering, web applications or webapps are application software that runs over the World Wide Web or an intranet. Webapps are gaining popularity in terms of software application practicability.

Web applications are becoming more popular because of the ubiquity of a client. The capability of updating and maintaining the web application without the need for distribution or installation of the software in potentially thousands of client computers is a key reason to its popularity. Implementation of webmail, online auctions, wikis, online retail sales, weblogs, discussion boards, MMORPGs and many other online functions are done through development of web applications. Web applications are basically the driving force behind web activities.
