Desktop Widgets

Forget static banners. Online advertisements are developing into mini-applications with video, games, and dynamic content that people find appealing and exciting enough to embed in their own Web pages in order to share with others. However, these widget ads are not usual yet, but they are cropping up continuously fast, further blurring the distinction between advertising and content. Others will see this as an improvement over flashing emoticons, dancing silhouettes, and expandable text boxes that almost cover up the whole item you want to view on a page. A lot of people are already using these small applications called desktop widgets that update dynamically and offer a limited function for things like calendar, clock, weather, and news or RSS feeds. Yahoo, Microsoft and Google offer these things and call them “gadgets.”
